Yinlong LTO ESS System Launched in Inner Mongolia, Assisting Grid Frequency Modulation

Yinlong LTO Energy Storage System (ESS) was successfully launched in Urat Power Plant in Inner Mongolia in recent days. It will assist in the frequency modulation of the thermal power generation units, which will improve the frequency modulation capacity on the power generation side. This will also enhance the coping mechanism of the grid towards short-period load fluctuation, and enable the grid to respond rapidly to the demand for power dispatching, ensuring a safe and stable grid operation.

Assisting Grid Frequency Modulation, Improving Comprehensive Energy Utilization Rate

As an important base for energy and strategic resource in the country, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region plays a crucial role in the national energy development strategy. It adheres to a new and high-quality development path that “prioritize ecology and pursuit green development”, and it also urges reginal industries to move towards environmentally-friendly and energy-saving development that features quality and effectiveness. The region is planning to construct a number of large base projects that rely mainly on renewable energy and combine high-parameter green thermal-power frequency modulation with ESS system as supporting facility. It is also to push forward diversified industrialized application projects of large-capacity energy storage technology and achieve multi-energy complementation and comprehensive energy utilization that integrate renewable energy with energy storage system.

To promote the construction of energy demonstration base that is not only clean and green but also safe and efficient, and to build a modern energy economy, Urat Power Plant actively develops its production and carries out research programs and introduce high and new technology projects to provide new force for national production. As said by a person-in-charge of the power plant, “we hope to keep a steady operation of the generator units by bringing in the Yinlong LTO energy storage system to assist in thermal power frequency modulation. This will help to relieve the wear and aging problem brought by frequency response of traditional generator units and improve safety of the units and generate remarkable second frequency modulation revenue.  

Fast and Precise Response to Promote Safe and Stable Grid Operation

Yinlong LTO ESS system features long life, high efficiency and large rate and is capable of fast and precise frequency response, which frequently charge and discharge the battery system rapidly by responding to the frequency demand of the thermal power plant. In this way, it can effectively enhance the frequency modulation capacity of thermal power plant, guarantee a stable grid frequency and improve the safety of system operation. In addition, Yinlong LTO energy storage system is capable of black-start and has a fast response that takes about 2 second to reach full load, which effectively shortens the time for system recovery, reduce the blackout time, and quickly help restore the grid to normal operation.
